The Shadowbringer.

Sometimes, beacons aren't a light, but rather in the darkest shadow cast by the wick of the flame.

It's said that if you move with atomic speed, only the shadow of the cut is left behind.

A reimagined version of the original donhiki knife, this version uses an integral bolster with a custom built, Japanese style octagonal "Wa" handle. The weight has been rebalanced towards the back to facilitate better draw cuts and for those who prefer a back heel centric rock chopping motion, creating a distinct 切れ味 "kireaji," or flavor of the cut, compared to the original.

The blade is made of VG10 damascus steel with 69 layers, hardened to 61HRC, made with a beautifully blackened, acid etched finish. The handle boasts a custom molded sloped bolster design, and is made of a combination of translucent crimson resin, shadowy shredded carbon fiber, and golden brass hardware, creating a unique, stunning piece reminiscent of shadow and flame.

This is a Chinese style Cai Dao, and is not a cleaver. Not to be used on excessively hard objects like bone and ice.

I was braced for the discount to mean something was off, but the edge took to the whetstone beautifully and it's held its sharpness through a week of meal prep. The minor cosmetic flaw is invisible unless you're really hunting for it, so for this price it's an absolute steal.

Jacob F. ★★★★★

The "B-grade" imperfection on mine is a barely-there scratch on the handle, but the blade itself is razor-sharp and feels solid in the hand. For the discount, it's a total steal, and honestly, I can't even find the flaw half the time.

Elizabeth ★★★★★

The blade came razor-sharp out of the box—sliced through a ripe tomato like it was butter, no squish at all. I can't even find the cosmetic flaw they warned about, so this felt like a steal for the discount. Hefty in the hand, too, with a balance that makes chopping feel effortless.
